About SewerAI Corporation

SewerAI is transforming underground infrastructure management through AI-powered inspection and risk analysis. Our platform helps contractors, engineering firms, and utilities unlock valuable insights from sewer inspection data—turning hours of manual video review into actionable intelligence in minutes. After doubling our customer base over the past year, we’re now entering an exciting phase of accelerated growth.

About the Role

We’re hiring a hands-on Controller who is energized by ownership and wants to define the next generation of SewerAI’s financial infrastructure. This is a hybrid role based out of our Walnut Creek, CA office, with in-office days required on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

As we scale rapidly, you will set the standard for precision, reliability, and scalability across our entire accounting environment and build the systems that support a hyper-growth company. You will design the month-end close, modernize our quote-to-cash engine, lead our audit lifecycle, strengthen working capital management, and transform our processes and technology into enterprise-grade foundations. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you’ll identify gaps, implement scalable solutions, and elevate how financial information is created, governed, and communicated. This is a role for a professional, process-oriented leader who can both build and run the machine that shapes the Accounting function.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the close: Own a timely and accurate month-end close, including consolidations, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.

  • Strengthen controls: Implement durable internal controls, policies, and documentation that ensure GAAP compliance and audit readiness.

  • Own revenue accounting: Direct ASC 606 compliance, usage- and subscription-based revenue, deferred revenue, and billing-to-revenue accuracy.

  • Establish operational truth: Build and maintain a reliable source of truth across ARR, invoicing, collections, and customer usage data.

  • Optimize working capital: Strengthen billing cadence, tighten collections, and improve visibility into spend and procurement to support healthier cash flow.

  • Elevate financial data quality: Partner cross-functionally to tighten handoffs, improve data integrity, and strengthen internal and external reporting flows.

  • Drive systems transformation: Lead our ERP migration and modernization of accounting software and workflows.

  • Lead audit & technical accounting: Serve as the primary contact for auditors, overseeing documentation, support schedules, and general audit readiness.

  • Oversee core operations: Manage AP, payroll, vendor onboarding, procurement workflows, and controls around spend.

  • Develop the team: Mentor and grow the accounting function, elevating structure, accuracy, and operational excellence.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experienced accounting leader with 8–12+ years of experience in SaaS or high-growth technology environments; CPA strongly preferred.

  • GAAP and ASC 606 expertise, including subscription models, usage-based contracts, deferred revenue, and complex revenue arrangements.

  • Process and systems builder with a history of designing documentation, controls, and scalable workflows from the ground up.

  • ERP transformation experience, ideally with NetSuite or similar platforms, including integrations and control frameworks.

  • Audit leadership capability, with experience preparing for and managing annual audits, strengthening controls, and producing clean reconciliations.

  • Clear, confident communicator able to translate financial detail into clear insights for executives, finance partners, and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • People-first leader with the ability to mentor and grow an accounting team while elevating accuracy, discipline, and rigor.

  • Willingness and ability to work in a hybrid environment from our Walnut Creek office, in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The base salary range for this role is $180,000–$210,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Benefits include:

    - Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life, 401K and much more

    - Unlimited PTO

    - Tools you need to get the job done

    - Budget for courses, books, conferences – your development is important to us
