Solutions Engineer - Project Development
Brooklyn, NY
Solutions
In office
Full-time
In the next 30 years, the world will transform every part of the built environment to be climate positive green infrastructure. Knowing what, where, and how to build infrastructure like solar farms is one of the great opportunities of our time. However, there are problems!
The Problem
80% of clean energy projects that developers start never actually get built because most projects are started without deep due diligence on zoning and interconnection due to the cost of collecting that data. This means $17B worth of canceled projects per year.
Our Solution
Paces is software for green infrastructure developers to identify the best places to build and manage their projects. First we collect environmental, permitting, zoning, energy grid data from various different sources; then we analyze the data and use AI to identify the best places for developers to build their next projects.
Our Team
We are building a team where people can proudly say their time at Paces is the most impactful, meaningful work of their career. Our amazing team in Brooklyn, New York includes incredible team members from tech companies like Facebook, AWS, DataDog, and Rent the Runway as well as from industry leaders like NexAmp, Total Energies, Tesla, and NASA.
Paces is growing rapidly and looking for exceptional people to join who want to have a massive positive climate impact while building a great culture! We are looking for a Solutions Engineer - Project Development to join our Solutions Engineering team, reporting directly to the Head of Customer Success and Solutions.
🏆 What You’ll Be Doing
Lead development-driven projects across site origination, permitting, and interconnection
    • Run site screening processes across greenfield and acquisition pathways, including outreach, LOI negotiation, and economic modeling.
    • Translate regulatory requirements (local permitting, AHJ engagement, etc.) into clear roadmaps and submitted applications.
Automate away inefficiency
    • Build and maintain internal tooling and repeatable workflows to eliminate manual steps in site evaluation and diligence.
    • Contribute ideas to the product roadmap based on frontline exposure to pain points in the deployment lifecycle.
Act as the internal developer voice
    • Champion customer and market context in product discussions, ensure our siting, permitting, and power products reflect on-the-ground realities.
    • File clear product tickets, surface patterns across projects, and participate in design reviews.
Mentor and level-up the org
    • Support Associate Solutions Engineers, codify learnings into playbooks, and actively improve how Paces delivers on high-speed development projects.
📈 Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in renewable energy, data center infrastructure, or utility-scale development. Roles may include: Development Engineer, Site Acquisition Manager, Interconnection Analyst, or Deployment Strategist.
  • Hands-on comfort with GIS tools to analyze geospatial or interconnection data.
  • Strong communication skills; you can confidently interface with landowners, utilities, permitting agencies, and internal product/engineering teams.
  • Understanding of project economics, interconnection milestones, and permitting workflows.
✨ About You
  • You wake up excited about grid infrastructure, climate tech, or the data-center energy arms race.
  • You’re energized by rolling up your sleeves and executing: sourcing parcels, submitting interconnection filings, or debugging model output.
  • You thrive in ambiguity and find fulfillment in solving un-scoped problems.
  • You have a meticulous attention to detail and a passion for getting it right, whether that’s a zoning map, load flow model, or customer proposal.
🚀 Bonus Points
  • Prior experience at a high-growth startup or deployment-focused consultancy.
  • Exposure to permitting in local jurisdictions and working with AHJs.
  • Hands-on comfort with Python or internal scripting frameworks to automate tasks.
💰 Compensation and Benefits
  • $150,000-$170,000 annual compensation
  • Competitive equity compensation
  • 401(k) match
