About Kojo

It's time to build. Whether it's creating more housing, upgrading our infrastructure, or adapting to climate change, one thing is clear: the construction industry is at the center of solving our biggest problems. We’re making buildings cheaper and easier to build by transforming the way commercial construction companies buy their materials. Join us.

Founded in 2018, Kojo is now one of the fastest-growing construction technology companies in the world. Construction accounts for $10 trillion in global spend annually and we can’t live without its output - our roads, schools, hospitals, and offices. Despite this, there’s been very little innovation over the past 70 years in how materials - which constitute up to 40% of project costs - are bought and sold. This is our opportunity.

We’re seeking a Mechanical Merchandising Specialist with a background in distribution or supply to help refine and expand our mechanical product catalog. You’ll use your industry knowledge and Excel expertise to ensure our catalog is accurate, searchable, and aligned with customer needs. This is a 6-month contract role with ~40 hours per week (potential to scale to full-time, permanent employee as needed).

About the Role

As our Mechanical Merchandising Specialist, you’ll be the subject matter expert who ensures our catalog feels natural and reliable for the people who use it every day. You’ll take your knowledge from years in distribution and apply it in a new, tech-driven setting — helping us structure, refine, and expand thousands of SKUs so they’re intuitive, searchable, and aligned with how pros in the field actually work.

Success in this role hinges on more than data cleanup - you’ll be a thought partner to our product and engineering team to shape the digital backbone of Kojo’s platform. Serving as the voice of the customer when it comes to how mechanical products should be categorized and described, you’ll work closely with Kojo leadership to build workflows that make it possible for builders to finish projects faster, with fewer delays, and less wasted spend.

This role will include:

  • Revising our existing catalog structure to ensure it meets industry standards, including working through a queue of items from our catalog that are in need of refinement

  • Refining a generics catalog to help improve customer search, sourcing, and analytics

  • Developing our taxonomy to ensure it meets industry standards and unblocks product development, including browsing and analytics products

  • Continuously adjusting linked and related items to build out improved procurement workflows

  • Collaborating closely with Product, Design and Engineering as a mechanical products expert

What you’ve accomplished:

  • 4+ years working for an mechanical supplier or distributor in merchandising, sourcing, ecommerce, or other customer-facing roles requiring deep product knowledge

  • Expert knowledge of mechanical products

  • Excel speed and comfort with large datasets (bonus if you’ve used tools like VLOOKUP, pivot tables, or macros).

  • Ability to balance speed and accuracy — hitting weekly throughput targets without sacrificing quality

  • Ability to deliver and receive feedback, track record of continuous improvement efforts in support of the customer experience

  • Experience correcting and improving e-commerce item descriptions.

  • Experience Working with clients on custom items and meshing preset catalogs with custom prefab

  • Preference for familiarity with ERP, PIM, or procurement systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.), and basic SQL or BI tool experience to pull and analyze catalog performance data (though not required)

What you care about:

  • Innovation: You seek to understand the truth behind problems and find solutions to them and you are determined to transform this industry

  • Impact: You prioritize rigorously and accomplish amazing amounts of important work

  • Customer Obsession: You care deeply about our customers and you go the extra mile to delight them

  • Accountability: You are motivated by having the space to make your best judgments about what should be done and how to do it
